About the Instructor: Avis Saunders is a seasoned hairstylist and makeup artist with over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry. Her career began in the world of film and television makeup, where she honed her skills in creating camera-ready looks. Years later, she transitioned into bridal, using her expertise to craft picture-perfect looks for hundreds of brides and special events. Currently, Avis shares her passion and knowledge as the Stage Makeup Professor at Schoolcraft College in Livonia. She also owns and operates her own salon suite and co-owns an on-location bridal hair and makeup business, On the Glow.Avis firmly believes that makeup is for everyone and sees it as a powerful tool to help individuals express their confidence and beauty. Her classes at the War Memorial are designed to empower participants with the skills and knowledge to enhance their natural beauty and embrace their unique features.

Ages 10+

A perfect transition course for Back to School Season!  Boys will learn how to be confident, build self-esteem and be empowered. They will learn the skill of being assertive and strong while still being a kind person in sticky situations  -managing  misunderstandings, disagreements and unfriendly situations with friends and classmates as well as how to handle peer pressure especially in friendship situations.  Boys will play games and role play how to handle sticky situations.  

Bring Snack and reusable water bottle.  K - 5th Grade.

Transitioning from summer fun to Back to School can be tough - this course can help! Girls will learn how to be confident, build self-esteem and be empowered.  They will learn the skill of being assertive and strong while still being a kind person in sticky situations  -managing misunderstandings, disagreements and unfriendly situations with friends and classmates, as well as how to handle peer pressure, especially in friendship situations.  Girls will make a Girl Power craft; Girl Power tool kit and role play how to handle sticky situations.

Learn to be safe and responsible. Build confidence. Have a competitive edge over other babysitters. Topics include first aid, when and how to call 911, CPR with manikin practice, choking, dealing with difficult behaviors, basic care methods like feeding and diapering, marketing and more! Students will also learn how to be safe and responsible when home alone, including the importance of not giving out personal information and what to do if somebody comes to the door. Students who successfully complete the course requirements will receive acertificate of completion for Certified Babysitter/CPR/First Aid course by Live Safe Academy (valid for two years).

Parents, this class is for students who are independent and responsible enough to be responsible for the safety and well-being of younger children without adult supervision. Class will end between 2 PM and 3 PM depending on when students complete the course requirements.

Students need a lunch, snacks, and a fully charged cell phone (if they own one). If your student does not have a cell phone, please write down the cell phone number of the person picking them up and give it to the student. Students will message their ride at lunchtime to let their ride know what time to pick them up. Please check in your student at the beginning of class. Drop off and pick up is in the classroom. This is an add on class for students who participate in the Certified Babysitter/CPR/First Aid course on the same day (students of a previous Live Safe Academy Certified Babysitter/CPR/FirstAid course can become a certified pet sitter by taking a live virtual class). This program will begin after the babysitter safety class ends. Class should be concluded by 3 PM to 4 PM, depending on whenthe babysitter safety course is completed. In this caregiver and child class, there will be story reading followed by an arts and crafts activity that matches the theme of the story.  Learning games and activities will also be played.  While enjoying pleasant activities, children will learn to follow directions in addition to developing fine motor skills .

The Modern Manners program provides children the tools they need to navigate a complicated world with kindness, class, and confidence. This age appropriate program takes place over an elegant three-course meal and empowers children to elevate their behaviors to make others (and themselves) more comfortable.
