Kids Cooking Class with Chef Joe Paxton

Ages: 7 - 18

Learn how to craft a gourmet multi-course meal with The War Memorial’s own classically French-Trained Executive Chef Joe Paxton in our new Alger Center kitchen.  Kids will be taught how to make a restaurant quality dish in a way that is both approachable and fun!

Designed for young chefs ages 7 and older, this hands-on experience lets children explore the world of food through the lens of a trained executive chef in a real professional kitchen.

Please note, all children will be cooking the same meal at individual stations that are staffed by The War Memorial's culinary team.  As a result, we are unable to accomodate any dietary restrictions.

In this exciting class, kids will:

  • Learn Basic Cooking Skills: From chopping and mixing to measuring and stirring, kids will gain essential kitchen skills in a safe and supervised environment.
  • Explore New Ingredients: They'll discover a variety of fresh, healthy ingredients and learn about their flavors, textures, and nutritional benefits.
  • Create Delicious Dishes: Each session features fun, kid-friendly recipes that children will prepare themselves, always including a full meal!
  • Practice Kitchen Safety: They'll learn important kitchen safety tips and proper hygiene practices, ensuring a safe cooking experience.
  • Enjoy a Full Meal: At the end of each class, kids will enjoy the gourmet meal that they created!

Join us for a culinary adventure that will inspire your child's taste buds and boost their confidence in the kitchen!

Our chef-crafted menu will feature a Garden Salad w/ House Ranch, Pan-Seared Chicken w/ Apple Cider Pan Sauce, Roasted Yukon Gold Lyonnaise, and Orange-Glazed Carrots

 

Closed toe shoes are required.

Long pants are required. No Shorts or dresses.

We are unable to accomodate dietary restrictions.

Ages 7+

All children will receive a chef hat to bring home.

Bring containers for leftovers.

Modern Manners for Children (Ages 8-15)

The Modern Manners program provides children the tools they need to navigate a complicated world with kindness, class, and confidence. This age appropriate program takes place over an elegant three-course meal and empowers children to elevate their behaviors to make others (and themselves) more comfortable.

Topics include:

  • First impressions and introductions
  • Greetings and handshakes
  • Polite conversations and friendship
  • How to speak to adults and other superiors
  • Correspondence and phone manners
  • How to be a great host and guestHow to give and receive graciouslyHow to be a good teammate, partner, and leader
  • Dining etiquette, including handling and cutting food, place setting 101, polite table manners, how to handle tricky foods and so much more
